I fell in love with Monet’s gardens when I first entered them in 1984, I got a lump in my throat and thought  “I want to know this place intimately and contribute to it”. So I quit my wonderful job in Carmel, CA and moved to France to work for free. My life has never been richer. This week I celebrate the opening of Monet’s Garden exhibition at the New York Botanical Gardens with his paintings, my photographs, the re-created gardens, inspiring lectures, art programs, music and more.  Seasons of Giverny opens May 19-Oct. 21, 2012

Standing under a veil of weeping willow in the soft green light of Monet’s garden,
I wondered how many bridges I have crossed
to arrive at where I stand today? What bridges have you crossed or built between places, cultures, or ways of thinking?

I sent off almost 100 photographs for this show, and have written 2 articles for the catalog. The show will run from mid May-mid Oct. I go back for the opening receptions May 17 and lecture May 18 & 19. They expect 5,000 visitors each of the opening days!  35 of my photographs will be offered for sale in Shop in The Garden. I printed everything with archival green inks on canvas to avoiding glass and framing and making the images more assessable yet durable. I am excited to show some new images from my 25 years of work, panoramas, HDR, painterly photography, Nouveau Vintage flower portraits  an  image of Monet’s water garden printed as 9 individual photos and in the Conservatory there will be one of my photographs over 11’ across and 6’ high! More images will be on the App to help interpret the show, in signage, and in the catalog. I hope you can visit!

This tulip emerged from a dormant dry brown bulb and now the flower radiates life in it’s full glory.  What has blossomed for you this spring out of dormancy?

As the Big Sur river meanders to the sea it sculpts the land and weaves a tapestry of great beauty like the fog bank that ever changes the horizon. Living on the edge of an every changing landscape brings a dynamic drama to life. What changes brings your life new breath?

A tree lives in three realms: the roots grow into the deep, dark under world of the earth, like the place of the ancestors, and the past. The trunk stands upright in the here and now the present. The branches reach up high into the sky hosting birds and transforming light into food, representing the future. Where do you spend most your time?

Herbs are great teachers, just their scent can add healing. Smelling rosemary improves memory, lavender will relax us and sage will connect us to ancient wisdom as well as being delicious toasted with butter for vegetables and stuffed into poultry. Cultivating even a few herbs in pots will connects us more deeply to the plant world. Do you have a special relationship with a plant?

Eggs hold all the potential of new life. A magical vessel that could contain breakfast, or a little chick pecking her way out to the light. Eggs have been used as a cross culturally as symbol for spring time, resurrection, alchemy as well as to decorate, hide and give as gifts at Easter. Do you have a secret??

The well has always been a place of mystery, a portal to the fairy realm, the inner world and of course a source of life giving water. Where is your place to return to for wellness, mystery and renewal?

Pt. Lobos is a place of great natural beauty and renewal. It has a living geology, that tells us how this land was formed. The landscape is dynamic and constantly changing, yet it holds a timeless quality of consistency. What in your life has both consistency and change?

My neighbor’s small kitten looks out her cottage window, curious about the day, the wild flower bouquet and me, working in the garden below her. What has made you curious and brought you joy and gratitude today?

Golden light illuminates the sand dunes framing the headlands where elk walk along ancient ridges and the Salmon rivers flows to the sea. The Oregon coast, stunningly beautiful, cold and rugged brings me back home to my own wild nature. What landscape brings you home to your own wild nature?

I grew this pink Shirley poppy by seed in the window box under my kitchen window. Each time I passed it I admired her beauty with gratitude. Then the flowers caught my attention and invited me to photograph them as a way to share their Beauty and love. May you celebrate beauty and love everyday but especially on St. Valentine’s Day!

Sculpture from the Sky

Rock

Granite rocks protrude from the grassy mantel giving a hint of the

earth’s bone structure under the thin soil.

This place where earth, sea and sky meet greet the sculpture from

the sky- fierce winds which tear limbs off the cypress shaping them

to a beauty they would not have without the torment.
